Yes To ‘Orgy’ No To ‘Dragon Tattoo’, Courtesy Censor Board

Finally the Censor Board has cleared Hollywood movie ‘A Good Old Fashioned Orgy’ with two minor cuts for public viewing in India.  India’s Censor Board has been blamed in recent days by many leading film makers for adopting double standards while giving clearance to different movies. Last month it objected to certain scenes from the movie ‘The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo’ which were done aesthetically but the same board had given clearance to graphic depiction of sex in ‘A Good Old Fashioned Orgy’.

The producers of ‘The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo’ were so exasperated with the Censor Board’s attitude that they decided against releasing the movie in India. The Censor Board believed that the nudity in the movie was too hot to handle in India.  A month later the Board has cleared the release of Á Good Old Fashioned Orgy’ which shows sex toys and other props. This movie was given R rating in the US for its strong and graphic sexual content.

When ‘Filmi Files’ contacted Nakul Malhotra, General Secretary Delhi Cine Goers Association (DCGA) for his opinion on the Censor Board’ role in India he candidly said, “Cine Goers in India can deal with any sensitive issue if it is done in a good taste. They are mature enough to handle any cinematic content but the Censor Board continues to treat Indian audience as if they live in an Island.”
