Five Films On Kashmir  That We All Admire!

Filmi Files has prepared a list of five films where Kashmir Valley is an integral part of the script. Take a look

ROJA:

It is a 1992, Tamil romantic thriller movie. It was dubbed in Hindi, Maharashtrian, Telugu and Malayalam languages.

Starring Arvind Swamy and Madhoo, this film went on to receive many awards.

The film portrays the struggle of a young woman from South India living in Kashmir who is making all the efforts to find her husband Rishi (Arvind Swamy) who’s kidnapped by militants. Rishi comes with his wife to Kashmir in order to serve in the army and gets abducted during a secret undercover mission.

Haider:

Shahid Kapoor starrer film was released on 2 October 2014. This film was critically acclaimed and is the first Indian movie to receive “Peoples Choice Award” at the Rome film festival. Along with this, it also won 5 national awards.

Vishal Bhardawaj’s directorial movie also starred Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor & Kay Kay Menon. It is based on modern day Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Haider, played by Shahid Kapoor is a youngster and poet who returns to his homeland Kashmir, seeking answers in disappearance of his father only to get tangled in the politics of the the state. This movie is set in the year 1995.

Rockstar

Rockstar:

Director’s Imtiaz Ali film released on 11 November 2011. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Shammi Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari.

It is a musical romantic drama film, Ranbir played the role of a budding musician Janardhan Jakhar a.k.a. Jordan, who idolises Jim Morrison and wants to become a Rockstar like him. This movie shows the rise and downfall of his life because his love Heer played by Nargis dies due to an illness.

A R Rahman gave music in this film and it is arguably one of the best albums of Bollywood.

Fanaa:

Released on 26 May 2006, Kunal Kohli’s directorial film is a Romantic thriller. It stars Aamir Khan, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor and Tabu.

This movie has a good soundtrack, Aamir Khan played an antihero, while Kajol played his blind love interest.

Rehan Khan (Aamir Khan) plays the role of a tourist guide who falls in love with Kajol.

After some years, Rehan is killed by terrorists only to be revealed that he is not only alive but is a terrorist who is the mastermind behind all the attacks.

Few years later, he again meets Kajol only to die at the end. Thus, the name Fanaa (destroyed in love).

Mission Kashmir:

It is an Action thriller film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra released on 27 October 2000.

It has a huge star cast of Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Sanjay Dutt, Sonali Kulkarni and Jackie Shroff.

The very famous “Bhoormo Bhoormo” song is from the same movie. Mission Kashmir is a about a young boy Altaaf Khan (Hrithik Roshan) whose entire family is killed in an accident by police officers.

From the same group of officers, a cop adopts him, only later Altaaf finds out about his family and starts plotting revenge eventually becoming a terrorist.

This movie is a tragedy which deals with terrorism and people suffering from the never ending war in Kashmir.
