Tom Cruise is back as Captain Peter ‘Maverick‘ Mitchell in the second trailer of Top Gun: Maverick. A director sequel to 1986 film Top Gun, also headlined by Tom Cruise, the film has the 57-year-old actor being re-assigned as an instructor pilot after thirty years of service as a “one of the finest pilots this programme has ever produced.”

The first trailer of the film, surprise dropped at the Comic-Con in July, revealed that Captain Peter Mitchell has not only not risen in rank but has also “refused to retire” and “failed to die despite his best efforts”. The second trailer has Tom Cruise saying: “I have to admit I wasn’t expecting an invitation back” when he’s assigned to train a new batch of Top Gun aviators for a special mission.

The new film finds Maverick training Top Gun graduates for a new, intense mission—and meeting the son of his late buddy, Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Miles Teller will play that progeny, Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, call sign “Rooster.”

In addition to Cruise, Val Kilmer will be back as the cocky Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, alongside new stars Jon Hamm, Glen Powell & Manny Jacinto “Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past,” the description concludes, “Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”

Watching the trailer, it certainly gave us the chills and it’ll be safe to say that Tom Cruise should never act his age, he is one of the few blessed actors who at the age of 57 is flying high and looking all mighty.

Directed by Joseph Kosinskim, Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick is slated for June 2020 release. For more bites, Filmi Files will keep you updated.
