The trailer of Bell Bottom was released yesterday and the Akshay Kumar starrer’s surprise element came in the form of Lara Dutta. The yet to be released film is a spy thriller set in the 1984. Lara Dutta portrays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. Within minutes of the trailer’s release, Lara Dutta began trending on Twitter. The outstanding transformation of the former Miss Universe left netizens in awe of her. When you first look at Lara Dutta in the avatar of former PM Indira in the Bell Bottom trailer, you can barely recognize her. And, the actress soon occupied a top spot on Twitter trends. It is worth mentioning that Akshay Kumar will be seen playing the role of an undercover RAW agent. It features Vaani Kapoorand Huma Qureshi, among others. The film is based on a real story in which Akshay is given the task of rescuing 210 hostages from the hijacked Indian plane.
Earlier, Lara Dutta also revealed how she landed the role of former PM Indira Gandhi in the soon to be released film.
Lara revealed that the makers gave her a call and said that is film is being made and they said they are casting for Indira Gandhi’s role. Lara did not even hear the script and said yes to the film. She said, “That is all it took.” She emphasized that there is huge responsibility when you are portraying somebody who is a leading figure like Indira Gandhi.
The “Andaaz” actress said that she had done a plenty of homework and research before portraying the former PM in the film. It was once in a lifetime opportunity and I am thankful for it, added Lara Dutta while divulging that she had a great time.
It was a hijack situation that occurred during her tenure. Amid the dramatic events that were taking place, Indira Gandhi was somebody who was extremely centred and not prone to any dramatics. Therefore, it was important to portray her in that form, said Lara Dutta.
On the lighter note, when Lara Dutta came to Delhi with the team members at the trailer launch event, she divulged that she plays Indira Gandhi in the film. She asked the media to speculate her role. Lara even said if anybody can guess her role, then she will take them all along with their family members free to the theatres.
On the work front, Lara Dutta will be seen with actor PrateikBabbar in Indian remake of comedy drama series Casual for Starz and Lionsgate Play in India and South Asia. The series will be directed by Kunal Kohli.
Lara Dutta is married to Mahesh Bhupati and has a daughter with him. The couple tied the knot in the year 2011. The couple welcomed their daughter Saira Bhupati in the year 2012.
