Books are forever they say, aren’t they? But well, so are the adaptations of bookstore treasures into movies and series because why let the big screen be devoid of a beautiful storyline!
Behind Her Eyes
Based on the work of Sarah Pinborough, going by the same name Behind her eyes is the latest trending series on Netflix. A psychological thriller web series created by Steve Lightfoot, the adaptation has become a huge hit. The storyline deals with an unconventional love triangle and how a single mother is pulled into the world of suspense and twisted revelations.
Bridgerton
Based on Julia Quinn’s The Bridgerton Series, the series is a period drama based in London and directed by Chris Van Dusen. The first season is an eight episode drama and received instant acclaim on Netflix. Released in December 2020, the series was soon renewed for a second season based on the high viewership.
The Queen’s Gambit
Based on Walter Tevis’s 1983 novel, The Queen’s Gambit is a 2020 drama series on Netflix. The series is set in the cold war era and became an instant hit amongst the audience. With some exemplary showcasing to the most intellectual game- Chess, the series proved a great balance of drama and emotion.
Fifty Shades Trilogy
Notable for its erotic and sexual imagery, Fifty Shades is a 2011 romance novel trilogy by E.L James and is famous for its characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The trilogy traces the deepening of their relationship and erotic visuals. Starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dorman the film was a success at the box office despite facing some backlash.
Wolf of Wall Street
Published in 2007, The Wolf of Wall Street is a memoir by the former stockbroker Jordan Belfort. The book was then adapted into a 2013 movie of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio starred as Belfort and also was the producer in the movie. Grossing over $392 million worldwide, the movie recounts Belfort’s viewpoint on his career and how his firm Stratton Oakmont became the center of corruption at Wall Street.
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby is to date considered a classic. Dealing with Jay Gatsby’s obsession with his former love, Daisy Buchanan, the novel was adapted into a movie in 2013. Grossing over a whopping $350 million, the movie won the 86th Academy Award for the Best Production and Custom Design.
Gone Girl
Written by the American writer Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl is a 2012 thriller novel. Flynn in many of her interviews shared her desire to write about the missing Laci Peterson, a case that garnered a lot of attention. The novel was shortly made into a film and was released in 2014. Starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, the story is said to be a postmodern mystery and was nominated for the Academy Award along with several others.
Harry Potter
Well this one doesn’t need an introduction, does it? The film-based series written by J.K Rowling and created by Warner Bros consists of 8 movies in a series. The Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint starrer series is such that you can visit it anytime and remains the third highest-grossing film series.
P. S. I Love You
Irish writer Cecelia Ahern’s debut novel P.S. I Love You was published in 2004 and became a bestseller in Ireland and the United States shortly after. The film was adapted into a movie in 2007 and the performances of Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler managed to steal the show. While the movie was criticized for its writing, it managed to be a box office success.
Pride and Prejudice
The oh so dreamy Mr. Darcy managed to captivate the hearts of many girls and left all of them sobbing when he chose Elizabeth not once but twice! An 1813 romantic novel written by Jane Austen was made into a movie in 2005 by Joe Wright and managed to make over a whopping $100 million at the box office.
