Tapsee Pannu Performance: A Different Woman Every Single Time

By Anjali

Taapsee Pannu is a renowned and critically praised actor in Bollywood and the South. She has always come up with a powerful woman character in each of her movies. Every time she portrays a different aspect of a woman. Tapsee has worked in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu language movies. She entered in the entertainment industry as a model and then she made her debut in 2010 with a Telugu movie “Jhummandi Naadam”. Later on, she worked in a Tamil movie “Aadukala” in the year 2011. Bollywood witnessed her debut in 2013 with David Dhawan’s “Chasme Baddoor”. Taapsee Pannu marked her impeccable performance in the year 2016 with the commercially hit courtroom drama “Pink”. And, from that moment the storm named Taapsee Pannu became unstoppable with other successful movies like “Naam Shabana”, “Thappad”, “ Saand Ki Aankh” etc. She was also acknowledged as Best Actor Female in the years 2019 and 2020 for her performance in “Saandh Ki Aankh”, and “Thappad”. Her dedication and hard work are always reflected in her on-screen characters. She is often cheered by critics for her role choices.

Her recent movie “Haseen Dilruba” was released on Netflix on 2 July 2021. She shared the screen with Vikrant Messy and Harshvardhan Rane. This movie is about a wife under investigation as an accused in her husband’s murder. During the investigation with the police officer, she reveals details of their spiky marriage that seem to only further fade the truth. “Haseen Dilruba” is directed by Vinil Mathew and written by Kanika Dhillon, who also wrote Kangna Ranaut starrer “Judgemental Hai Kya”. She is an actor who owns the roles she plays which a few can do in contemporary Hindi cinema. In this movie, Tapsee manages to give the tedious act of kneading dough the kind of sensuality one can’t resist admiring. Unfortunately, the film loses itself in such a maze-like mess, and along with it “Rani” (Taapsee Pannu), a character that starts off flesh-and-blood before vanishing into something quite unrecognizable.

In the movie, Taapsee is a hoot elaborating herself to her pessimistic husband in bullet points, ending her words with “You get a great combo offer in me, beauty, brains, and a hot body”. Rani (Taapsee Pannu) is a woman who believes cheesy novel quotes like “Pagalpan ki Had se na Gujra, Woh Pyaar Hi Kaisa”. She is fond of the crime novels by Dinesh Pandit throughout the movie. It is no surprise then that Rishu (Vikrant Messey) is too straightlaced and mild for her. She couldn’t find her ideal husband in Rishu. Meanwhile, she swept off her feet with Rishu’s cousin Neel (Harshvardhan Rane) with his attractive personality, dominating nature, and river-rafting credentials. Overall, if we only talk about Taapsee Pannu’s character, it feels like she is obsessed with society’s made notion of an ideal husband. But, after her mistakes, she could find the real gem. Here are some of Taapsee’s best on-screen characters that portray her versatility in the characters.

“Saandh Ki Aankh”:

Based on the life stories of Indian Shooter Dadi “Chandro and Prakashi Tomar”. For a 33-year-old lady to play the role of 65-70 years old woman character, needs a lot of dedication apart from dressing and makeup. This movie was an example of Taapsee’s best performance.

Pink:

It is important for men to understand the meaning of “No”. “A No is No and it does not need any explanation. Whether she is your wife, friend, girlfriend, sex worker, etc, a No is a No”. Through this legal courtroom drama film, Taapsee emerged as a strong female who knows how to fight for herself against all odds.

Thappad:

“Bas Ek Thappad Par Nahi Maar Sakta”. It is a family drama by Anubhav Sinha. Tapsee is seen playing the lead role where she challenges society for staying shut against physical violence by her husband.
