Karan Johar Criticises Critics for ‘Violent Words’ at the Akaal Trailer Launch

Dharma Production collaborates for its debut Punjabi film venture ‘Akaal’ with Gippy Grewal’s Humble Motion Pictures. Akaal releases in theatres on 10th April worldwide in Hindi and Punjabi.

Present at the trailer launch event of Akaal in Mumbai on Tuesday were  Karan Johar,  Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Shinda Grewal, Nimrat Khaira, Nikitin Dheer and Apurva Mehta producer Dharma Productions.

Akaal has been Written, Directed and Produced by Gippy Grewal who is seen in the leading role in the film. Talking about its inception, Grewal says, “When I thought of directing a film,  Akaal was the first project I wanted to make in 2016, but I did not have the budgets. To test the waters I started with a small Budjet film ‘Ardaas’ and that’s when we started our production house Humble Motion Pictures.Now after collaboration with Dharma this film has indeed become a big film.”

Johar on what made him take the plunge to venture into Punjabi Cinema said, ” It was nothing but Gippy Grewal that took  Dharma to foray into Punjabi cinema,and this is our very film and there could not be a better beginning.”

Throwing light on the character and plot of Akaal Grewal said, “Akaal is a fictional  character based on the era of 1840 after the reign of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh which portrays the bravery and resilience of Sikh warriors, the film aims to bring Punjab’s rich history on the big screen.”

Meanwhile, Addressing the media expressed his dis-taste on certain media’s opinion who violently trolled the Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Khan starrer Nadaaniyan who wrote ‘I want to kick that film’.Johar said ‘kuch to log karenge logon ka kaam hai kehna,but the violent words are disturbing in their opinion pieces which is the reflection of themselves.”

Although Johar maintained that he respects the critics for their opinions and thoughts said,”People who know me know that my relationship with film critics never changes based on what they write. It is their right and their job. I don’t have conspiracy theories that they are on a mission to bring down a film.”
