The South Indian film industry has upped its game for the last couple of years. The south Indian film industry has produced prestigious projects in the last few years starting from the massive hit of Bahubali on pan-India level, multilingual blockbuster Bigil, to a record-breaker Saaho, and the most-watched Malayalam film Trance. All the attention is now turning towards south India for more such reputable films this year. There has been an increase in curiosity among fans all over India since the announcement regarding these projects was made. However, due to pandemic-induced lockdown, the production and release of these movies are constantly getting delayed yet the audience is still awaiting these most reputed projects. Let’s delve into the details of these movies.
- RRR: RRR is the next big announcement by the most-talked-about director of India in the current times. The fame of Rajamouli has skyrocketed to an international level after his roaring success, Bahubali. RRR is considered the next big sensation from this legendary director. The film casts the angry young tiger of Tollywood, Jr. NTR, and mega power star Ram Charan as the lead. The film is also going to cast the beauty of the Indian film industry Alia Bhatt and the Hollywood beauty enchantress Olivia Morris.
As has been clarified by Rajamouli himself, RRR is an abbreviation of Roudram Ranam Rudhiram. Since last year, the RRR team has been revealing a few glimpses into the film here and there. The initial few glances into the film’s short videos and revealed photos are intriguing and hint that the movie is going to be power-packed with energetic performances. The movie was supposed to be released in 2020 itself but the COVID restrictions made it inevitable to halt the final stage of production activities. Let us pray and hope that the pandemic gets over quickly and we get to see our much-awaited RRR this year.
2. KGF2: KGF- Chapter 1 has made boisterous noise in every nook and corner of India. Since the release of the KGF-Chapter 2 trailer, Kannada superstar Yash fans are eagerly waiting for the release. The movie is expected to hit the theatres on July 16th this year but the road looks bumpy as of now. However, the OTT release is off the table, at least for now. It is not an exaggeration to say that the pre-bookings for the movie will be filled within just one day after observing the legendary hit that the KGF movie has been in India.
The Yash starring will revolve around a fictional action drama in which Rocky (Yash), a nefarious criminal, and his pursuit for power after his mother’s passing away. Rocky finds himself at war in Kolar’s gold mines that ensues into swashbuckling action scenes. The mind-blowing adventures in the first chapter enchanted the audience and the expectations are increasing on chapter 2 this time.
3. Radhe Shyam: Prabhas is now the heartthrob of all the Indians after his two crowd-pullers, Bahubali and Saaho. Prabhas is expected to play a romantic chocolate boy role in this film and the audience is excited to see Prabhas take a small drift from his adventurous roles after a long time.
The team of Radhe Shyam had released the first look of Radhe Shyam on the eve of Maha Shivaratri, which sent waves of joy and curiosity across all sections of the audience. The beautiful look of Prabhas and the female lead, Pooja Hegde has made butterflies fly in the stomachs of the Indian audience. The film is expected to release on July 30 this year. Gear up for another blockbuster from Prabhas.
4. Thalaivi: Thalaivi is the most awaited first multi-lingual project of Bollywood Queen, Kangana Ranaut in the lead position. This film is a riveting biopic of the once reigning queen of Tamilian hearts and an Iron lady of Tamil politics, Jayalalitha.
The trailer of A.L.Vijay directed Thalaivi has been released on the occasion of Kangana’s birthday and has set the standards high since then. Kangana has been lauded for her stunning looks and a stellar performance from the trailer. The release got delayed due to the virus ravaging the earth. The fans have to bear the pain of the delay for some time now as the team has not yet mentioned any details about the release date.
5. November story: November story is a prestigious announcement from Tamannah Bhatia, the milky beauty of Tollywood. The multi-lingual crime thriller web series is directed by Ram Subramaniam. Tamannah is playing the lead role in this series.
The enthusiasm for the series is already getting out of hand as this is the first web series with milky beauty in the lead. The trailer seemed intriguing and Tamannah has already left a mark on the audience’s heart with her classic performance. The audience has to wait and see if the series will keep up to the expectations.
6. Doctor: Doctor is the most anticipated project of Kollywood’s handsome hunk, Siva Karthikeyan. The movie was originally expected to hit the theatres by May 12 but it got delayed due to the lockdown in place. The Nelson Dilipkumar directed movie is casting the cutie of Kollywood, Priyanka Arul Mohan.
With the penchant in the audience for both Siva Karthikeyan and Priyanka Mohan, the team is intending to push the release on OTT if the situation doesn’t come under control sooner.
7. Pushpa: The Stylish star of Tollywood, Allu Arjun, is the sweetheart of every movie lover. Pushpa has drawn attention even from the staunchest critics since the release of its first look. The next big anticipated blockbuster from Allu Arjun is going to hit the theatres in August this year if everything goes as per the plans.
Pushpa is the first multi-lingual project of Allu Arjun. Hence, there has been much debate on the movie around the country. The 160 crores budget touted movie is directed by Sukumar. The last time both of these legendaries paired up, they gave classic masterpieces like Arya and Arya-2 and they are coming together for Pushpa after a long period. So, naturally, the hopes are high amongst the audience.
8. 3 Roses: Aha video has signed up with one of the busiest directors, Maruthi to give the audience a fascinating thriller. The web series is rumoured to cast Kajal Agarwal as lead, the hot beauty of the South film industry. Fans are all eyes for this new project because of the intriguing plot and the charming actress, Kajal.
Not many details are revealed about the cast and crew as of now. However, it is expected to hit the Aha video in the second half of this year if everything goes smooth. So, we will have to keep sweating for the Kajal starrer till the next announcement from the team.
9. Playback: Playback falls into a unique category in this whole list. The low-budget film is expected to be released on OTT platforms but not much information is available about other things currently. The suspense thriller in the backdrop of the early 90s revolves around the theme of cross-connection.
Hari Prasad Jakka is well-known for his hit movie “1-Nenokkadine” in Telugu. There are high expectations from this director after a long time as Nenokkadine has been a thriller movie as well. There is so much talk around this film as it is going to be India’s first cross-time connection film. The movie team chose to keep the audience in suspense regarding the release date going with the genre of the film.
10. Salaar: Salaar is yet another high reputed announcement from the current national crush, Prabhas. The 150 crores high-budget film is going to star the slim beauty, Shruti Hasan as the female lead. Prashant Neel, who bagged the title of successful director in sandalwood is directing this film.
Prashant Neel made a rippling effect of his successful roaring hits including Ugram and KGF, which were written and directed by him in sandalwood. The combination of two legendaries has sent a positive vibe among movie lovers especially to the fans of action thrillers. There is also a rumour that Salaar is the remake of Prashant Neel’s career turning hit, Ugram. But we may have to wait till the release of the movie or for an official announcement from the movie’s team to confirm the news.
All the movies are hinting that 2021 is going to be a promising year and an eye-feast for movie lovers. A few of these movies are thought to be released in 2020 itself, but the pandemic delayed the production and releases to 2021. Although the release dates of a few of these movies are already announced either on OTT or theatres, as the time decides, there is still uncertainty considering the situation outside. Nonetheless, the movie season seems like it is going to rage at the theatres and OTT platforms anytime soon.
