Hollywood has hit the purple patch with ‘The Avengers’ smashing all records. The superhero movie made a killing at the box office by piling up $ 1 billion in just 19 days. Last week the move raked in 103.2 million to lead for a second-straight weekend and increased its US collections to $373.2 million.
With $95.4 million more overseas, “The Avengers” recorded its international collections at $628.9 million and a worldwide haul of just over $1 billion. If ‘The Avengers’ successfully maintains its winning streak at the box office it will easily surpass ‘The Hunger Games’ which minted $ 386.9 million at the box office in the US this year.
‘The Avengers’ had an unhindered run at the box office as Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s vampire saga “Dark Shadows,” remained at the distant second spot with $ 28.2 million as total receipt in its debut weekend.
Other three top earning films in the US were “Think Like a Man,” “The Hunger Games” and “The Lucky One’ which collected $ 6.3 million, $ 4.4 million and $ 4.1 million respectively at the box office.
