Film Review: ‘Chhichhore’

Film Review: ‘Chhichhore’

By Neha Bora

Chichore, a word that is used extensively for “boys” who are not well-behaved or who don’t follow rules but you’ll never hear this word once in the 146 minutes long runtime of movie with the same title. Keep on reading to know about Film Review Chhichhore.

So why it is called chichore ? Well that question hardly stikes you and even if it does then it doesn’t bother you because you have got enough moments in the film to think of rather than figuring out why it is named chhichore.

Nitesh tiwari the guy who struck “Gold medal” with his first movie is back again. This time not with an established superstar, not with a success story and with a non-holiday release.

And the biggest risk that Nitesh takes with this film is it’s plot, which is exactly opposite of his first Blockbuster.

The story of chhichore revolves around Aniruddh played by Sushant singh rajput and Maya played by Shraddha Kapoor who have separated after marriage. They are both trying to prove each other’s fault during which their son tries to commit suicide when he comes to know that he has failed in IIT entrance.

While the doctors are trying to cure him with medicines and even surgery. Aniruddh tries to get him back to life with typical bollywood formula. What follows after is a two hour long stretched version of 3 idiots’s “Jaane nahi denge tujhe” and “Jo jeeta wahi Sikander” mashup.

What works for Chichore is it’s rawness, it’s not covered like other college dramas. It is unapologetic about the stupidity of it’s situations and characters on a level that after a while you start loving it.

Talking about the performance the biggest let down for this flick is it’s lead pair Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor. You can still see MSD in sushant while he is walking in his campus, more over that he looks like a guy high on testosterone injections in his 40s. I personally don’t know why Shraddha Kapoor after her so many performance failure’s is still “in demand”. She is the weakest actor and character in the film .

But what works for the film is it’s supporting cast Varun sharma, Naveen Polishetty, Tahir raj bhasin, Tushar pandey, Sharash shukla carry this film on their brilliant performances.

The film also stars pratik babbar who surprisingly looks like college version of “Sonu Sood villainism”. Mohammad samad who plays the son of the leading duo is good in his parts.

While the actors have done complete justice to their characters (except the lead duo) the fact that none of them looks like a first year student may bother you. It would have been better if the director had used a younger cast.

Apart from casting the most flawed thing about the film is it’s screenplay which is consistently inconsistent. It rushes in first 30 minutes then suddenly drops in second half and then picks up the pace. Unlike dangal this movie is not that good when it comes to evoking emotions. Read till the end to know what’s at the end of film review Chhichhore.

The one good thing about the writing is the screen space, almost every character has got enough time to prove its importance in the storyline. Tahir raj bhasin’s character is one of the things that saves the movie from its lead actor’s ordinary performance.

Talking about direction, Nitesh tiwary this time tries to do something that is exact opposite of his earlier flick. This time he is explaining you the importance of losing instead. And in this process he doesn’t lose you even in the dullest moments. And that is where you know that this man is not an one time shot. He is here to stay for a long time.

The only thing that you will badly miss in this film is the music, pritam’s music and amitabh bhattacharya’s lyrics surprisingly don’t weave the magic one expects from the duo. Except Khairiyat( which is there in the film for just 10 seconds) there is nothing good to remember about the album. Filmi Files are the best place to check out movies reviews online.

At last we would say that Chhichore is not 3 Idiots but it is also not SOTY, it carries a philosophy that we very often see in bollywood movies or in cinema general. It doesn’t have any heroes or villains, it has memories that are enough to keep you engaged in it for more than 2 hours. Hope you like the complete film review Chhichhore.

Go watch it with your friends and chhichoras.

Sacred Games 2 Gets Mixed Response

Sacred Games 2 Gets Mixed Response

By Ayushi Agarwal

The very anticipated second season of Sacred Games went live on Netflix at 12 AM on 15th August. Sacred Games is India’s first original Netflix series directed by Anurag Kashyap.

First season of sacred games ended up with a mystery waiting to be uncovered in the second season. The first half seems boring but it initially catches the momentum and ends with an absolute awe factor.

Sacred Games 2 did unfold the mystery however, it is receiving some mixed reviews from the viewers.

One of the viewer Ms. Shivani Grover writes,

“This season doesn’t justify the hype this show had. Nawazuddin Siddiqui aka Ganesh Gaitonde called himself God in the first season but in this season he is like, Who am I? So yeah it was below my expectations”.

This is certainly not what the makers would’ve expected. Although, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has done a marvellous job and so has Pankaj Tripathi who played the role of Guru Ji.

Overall, Sacred Games 2 definitely made a lot of buzzes and people are gushing about it on Twitter and other social media platforms. Sacred Games series is a must-watch if you’re into thriller and some good acting.

The season ended with a cliffhanger and fans are already waiting for the third season.

Film Review: ‘Mission Mangal’

Film Review: ‘Mission Mangal’

By Neha Bora

Everyone at one point or another in their childhood has dreamt of outer space, dreamt of being an astronaut, dreamt of being a scientist….And the movie ‘Mission Mangal’ plays with that very sense of nostalgia. Filmi Files is the best spot for tinsel town new and gossips.

It is the story of how a group of underdog scientists achieved an impossible mission.

Punctuated here and there with a little humor, interspersed with family drama and sprinkled with little patriotism and nationalism, this movie got a big opening today on the 73rd Independence Day, and is expected to go higher from here.

There are a few ideas that the film revolves around and on the basis of these ideas the films wishes to do it’s business too.

The film opens with an all sufficient, independent woman who seems to have answers to all the question, be it of science or of the family. This is one idea.

This is one idea, i.e. the idea of the smart independent woman who overcomes society, life and work with equal grace.

The second thing of note is the fact that the Mars mission is initially named ‘MOM’ and even though it is an acronym, Dattatreya at one point remarks that had the mission been named ‘dad’ the sattelite would have been stuck orbiting the earth.

There is also a too deliberate metro fight scene between the team comprising mostly of women and a few men.

It is also not lost on anyone that the team constituted by R. Balki and Jagan Shakti is comprised mostly of women.

All of this comprises the second idea that the movie tries to evoke: the idea of the united force of women.

I really appreciate both of the above idea but I wish more time had been spent in nurturing them through the writing to make them truly effective.

The Mars mission isn’t a feat only for India, it is a feat for humanity. It is a testament to the combined knowledge and research of scientists all over the world.

It was an event for humanity and to reduce it to one country, whose government as the movie itself points out did not even release funds for it, is too narrow minded.

What else is narrow minded was the fact that everything in the movie has been simplified to a level that the struggle goes mission.

In between the struggle of the puri, and the plastic, the pregnancy and the bossy husband, everything actually like the NASA returned scientist Rupert Desai remarks, seems to be propelled by emotions and dreams, even the mission.

Nevertheless I congratulate Jagan and Balki that they could made Mission Mangal happen and I really hope we see better, sharper work in the genre un the times to come.

Surprisingly, the cast of the movie performs the same function that its fictional counterpart performs in the storyline.

Tara or Vidhya Shinde is head of the team, responsible for the scientific and strategic breakthroughs of the mission and responsible for keeping her family sane despite her bossy husband and she is also the audiences’ anchor during the film.

Rakesh or Akshay is the smart eccentric man whose family we are never given a glimpse, making him seem like a ghost that doesn’t exist.

The part of Rakesh Dhawan along with that of Tara Shinde is that of the progatonist, whose actions are justice in the light that he is the protagonist. Sonakshi Sinha and her character both come out well in their limited capacity.

Tapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen too are convincing. Kriti Kulhari and her character aren’t explored enough. Parmeshwar played by Sharma Joshi comes into the story and fades away and Dattatreya doesn’t get enough comic space.

Amit Trivedi and Amitab Bhattacharya give us two good songs and the background score too sits well with he audiences.

I ‘space experience’ that many people might be looking for is absent because the story takes place mainly on Earth and even when the mission is launched into space the effects aren’t overwhelming.

All in all, the film can be matches once, especially if it’s a holiday and friends are at hand.
