Now that you have come to watch a David Dhawan film, you would laugh for sure – but just for the heck of it. The much awaited laugh riot of the festive season is going to end as a whimper, rather than a bang. David Dhawan’s ‘Rascals’ hit multiplexes today and it seems the film has failed to live up to people’s expectations.
Barring few funny moments and toned bikini babes, the Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Rascals’ is not really a great film by any stretch of imagination. There is a certain cliché about the way David Dhawan’s ‘Rascals’ has been made. But really, Anil Kapoor-Govinda in ‘Deewana Mastana’, Salman-Govinda in ‘Partner’ did the going so much better.
Chetan Chauhan (Sanjay) and Bhagat Bhosle (Ajay) con Anthony Gonsalves (Arjun Rampal) on the same day but on different occasions. After duping Anthony, they board the flight to Bangkok only to find themselves seated next to each other. Following which is two long painful hours of mirthless gags and skits adding up to nonsense.
The film is carpeted with dreadfully unfunny jokes that insult every community including, of course, the movie-going community which is expected to laugh at a scene where Sanjay Dutt puts on an unconscious woman`s underwear and wonders: “Why is it so much easier to take off a woman`s clothes than put it on?”
Seriously, the script writer – what were you thinking when you wrote such embarrassing lines taken straight from the walls of a private toilet?
Arjun Rampal is cool and looks in control, but one wonders what the poor soul is doing in such uncool comedy.
