Movie Review: ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is a run-of-the-mill action film lacking uniqueness. A review by Dr Priyaankaa Mathur.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is an action-packed masala film.Starring Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha and Manushi Chillar as Indian army officers and Prithviraj Sukumaran who plays the antagonist.

The film seems to be an amalgamation of extracts taken from many Hollywood films like Terminator, Fast and Furious, Mission Impossible, and Batman and can’t be called an original for sure. The action sequences are inspired by Fast and Furious and MI with some of the most dreaded stunts attempted by Akshay and Tiger. The film is a science fiction, which touches upon  concepts like Human hard drives, robots, missile technology, soldier clones, and self-regeneration.

The plot begins with the background story of two court-martialled army officers Freddy (Akshay Kumar) and Rocky(Tiger Shroff). They are summoned back to join an onboard mission to rescue India, from a disaster planned by the masked mysterious villain Prithviraj Sukumaran. He highjacks a highly secretive defence weapon Karan Kavach passing through the Himalayan range, while he sends a threat to the army high command to save the nation, and then begins the chase.

The masked superhuman seems like Batman until the story becomes clear. The concept also doesn’t give some logical answers as to why didn’t he heal when one had an access to tissue regeneration. The action sequences lack logic as to how can a guy roll twice through a hinge, making a bike collide with a helicopter.

One would wonder why the film is named Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, is due to a previous mission.Freddy and Rocky freed Indian hostages from the terrorists from an Afghan village who watched the Govinda Amitabh Starer Bade Miya Chote Miyan. Freddy and Rock rather share a funny Tom and Jerry relationship, while there’s a lack of respect that we expect in the army orders.

When the script is loose, you cannot blame the star cast as Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff have worked hard to give their best shots in the film. From pumping their muscles in the action sequences or dancing perfectly to every beat in the well-choreographed dance sequences. Prithviraj displays his negative shades most sincerely, while Manushi has a good screen presence.

A one-time watch for sci-fi lovers and kids.
