‘Resident Evil : Retribution’ Opens With A Bang In US

 Director Paul Anderson’s cult film ‘The Master’ commanded a huge following in its opening weekend by smashing records on just a handful of screens, ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ was the number one film at the box office with an estimated 21.1-million-dollar opening.

According to studio estimates on Sunday, the Weinstein Co. release ‘The Master’ made 729,745 dollars in five theatres in New York and Los Angeles for a record-setting per-screen average of 145,949 dollars.

The fifth film in the Sony Screen Gems action franchise ‘Resident Evil’ topped the 3-D re-release of the Disney Pixar animated favourite ‘Finding Nemo’ , which opened in second place with 17.5 million dollars, Fox News reported.

Last week’s number one ‘The Possession’ was knocked down to the third position with just 5.8-million-dollar takings this weekend.

Depression-era gangster flick ‘Lawless’ fell from second place last week to fourth after earning 4.2 million dollars, with ‘ParaNorman’ rounding off the top five.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Tops US Box Office With $ 65 Million

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ has charmed the US audience with a $65 million opening weekend. After a successful in the overseas, “The Amazing Spider-Man” has touched its overall collections to $341.2 million.

Last weekend’s No. 1 film, raunchy comedy “Ted,” slipped to second spot with $32.6 million, raising its domestic total to $120.2 million.Among new releases only ‘Savages’ performed well as it opened at No. 4 with a solid $16.2 million weekend collections from the US screens.
