7 Memorable Scenes From DDLJ

By Navya

Millions of movies get released each year but only a few are bound to make an impression, and a lasting one to say the least, on our hearts. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge has made a mark on every Indian’s heart. More than a movie, it is magic. This movie remains to sprinkle its magic on the hearts of the audience even today. While some movies become trendsetters, some others set standards. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is a standard for all love stories, a standard that despite many attempts hasn’t been reached.. The love still feels fresh and cherishable after so many years. If you are someone who is in love, you will love this movie. Even if you are not in love, this movie makes you crave the beauty of a relationship immediately. As the movie has recently finished its 25th year, let us revisit and cherish the 7 most memorable scenes from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge:

  1. Raj fails his exam: Failing in exams is never a proud moment for Indian parents but not for Raj’s pop (Anupam Kher). The fun-filled scene is not without a pinch of typical Bollywood father-son emotional drama. But after all, it is Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. This scene will forever be remembered for making the audience laugh and tear both at the same time. Raj’s pop appreciates Raj for failing in the exam. In continuation, he says that his family has always failed in examinations in India, but Raj made him happy by going a step further and failing in videsh (foreign country).

  2. The train scene: The first scene that hits everyone’s mind is the train scene whenever the topic of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge comes. Raj (Sharukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) meet for the first time in this film in this scene and it is one hell of a scene to be remembered and cherished. How can anyone forget the sweet background music, the beauty of Kajol, and the fun-filled conversation between both Raj and Simran in this scene? The chemistry between the duo wants us to fall in love each and every time we watch the film. It is not an exaggeration to say that even today all the young ladies and gentlemen still dream of meeting their loved ones in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge train scene style. The scene has been spoofed in numerous different styles in various languages, but all of them have been failed attempts. Magic is meant to happen only once, isn’t it?

  3. Raj and Simran miss the train: Missing the train can be a disappointing experience but not when it gives the lovely couple some time to get to know each other. The writer must have had a dream to meet his girl and spend time over a missed train. The scene beautifully showcases how the girl and boy are two poles apart but still are meant for each other. Every minute you see Sharukh Khan and Kajol together, you don’t see them, rather you see Raj and Simran. Such has been the deft displayed by the Bollywood superstars in this film. That’s one of the reasons the film turned out to be magic.

  4. The drunken Simran: The combination of good and mischievous can only be found in fictional characters as they are hard to bump into in our real lives. Although Simran has portrayed a mature girl throughout the film, the naughty side of her surfaces when she drinks in this particular scene. Drunken girls are funny yet adorable. Maybe this adoration attracted Raj, making him fall hard for Simran. Well, who doesn’t like a girl like Simran? She is just beyond perfect. Raj’s struggle with the crazy drunk girl is a sure-shot top fun scene in the movie.

  5. “Palat” scene: The second most loved scene from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is the “palat” scene. This scene understandably has a huge fan base. No other scene can match the level of feel this single scene has portrayed throughout the film. After a little talk outside the church, Simran starts walking away from Raj. Raj murmurs to himself “Agar who tujhse pyaar karti hai, toh woh palat ke dekhegi. Palat…. Palat………palat………” and guess what? Two people in love always communicate with their hearts. Simran turns back to see Raj. The scene ends with a wide smile on both Raj’s and Simran’s face. How can we forget this scene which has turned out to be a love test for the love birds?

  6. Raj and Simran meet after a long gap: Love-lorn love birds can relate to this scene very much. Simran’s father decides to move to Punjab after knowing about Simran’s feelings for Raj. Raj manages to find the whereabouts of Simran and goes in search of her to Punjab. The lovelorn couple meets in the meadows of sunflowers. What else soothes a human heart better other than two love-lorn couples meeting each other after a long gap?

  7. The one and only train scene again: This is where every audience sheds tears with pain. The void left by the parting with your loved ones cannot be explained. This scene brilliantly portrays the pain of two lovers, who are almost separated by their families. The end scene where Simran’s father allows her to meet her loved one is a worth watching scene. “Jaa Simran jee le apni zindagi,” are the words uttered by Simran’s father and they are the golden words any lovelorn daughter will be dying to hear. The happy ending where Simran runs to Raj is another top-notch experience worth in this film.

The 1995 film has left so many memories struck in the hearts of movie lovers. Although every scene in the movie is worth cherishing, the above mentioned 7 moments are the best of the best which instantly comes to anyone’s mind. No matter if you are a fan of the romance genre or not, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge never fails to impress you with the innocence of true and pure love. Not only does it display the worth of true love, but it beautifully portrays the pure relationship between a mother and her daughter, a son and his father, and a father and his daughter. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is a complete family entertainer and never fails to amaze you with the sweet feeling of love.
