Movie Review:’Paan Singh Tomar’ (****)

Director Tigmanshu Dhulia is brilliant in capturing stories from Hindi heartland. Last year he delivered a bold film like ‘Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster’,  and this year he recreates the magic with another gritty film about an athlete who becomes a dacoit forced by the circumstances around him.

‘Paan Singh Tomar’ opens in the ravines of Chambal and within moments it captivates  us by its beautiful narration. Irfan Khan seems to share a unique chemistry with his director who gave him a movie like ‘Haasil’ which was coincidently Dhulia’s debut film as director.

This magical actor-director chemistry is something very rare these days and it helps the character of Paan Singh Tomar immensely. Irfaan has successfully managed to be the character and not be a mere shadow of him. In the female lead Mahie Gill as Tomar’s wife has given a wonderful performance and proved her calibre as an actor. Mahie and Irfan look brilliant together and they outshine the entire cast with their performance.

For cinegoers who crave for quality cinema this movie is a treat to watch. Watch it to believe it.
