Swatantrya Veera Savarkar’s Trailer Launched in Mumbai.  The film releases on 22nd March 24 pays tribute to the Braveheart!

Swatantrya Veera Sawarkar is an upcoming biopic based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar starring actor Randeep Hooda in the lead role. The film takes you through the journey of the Indian freedom struggle throwing light on the life, persona and ideology of the braveson of India addressed as Veer Savarkar, a diehard patriot and a hidden gem, who unfortunately did not get his due in the telltales of the Indian freedom movement!

The trailer launch event in Mumbai was quite an eye-opener drawing insights into some of the not-quite-known facts about the Indian freedom struggle, and how challenging was it to make the film.Present at the launch were Randeep Hooda, Producer Sandeep Singh,Anand Pandit. The film stars Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande, Apinderdeep Singh, Harnam Singh, Amit Sial and Mark Bennington in the lead roles.

Randeep Hooda, who this time wears multiple hats being an Actor Director Producer and writer for the film Sawantra Veer Savarkar, has perfectly gotton into the character’s shoes.Throwing light on his character he says, ” Savarkarji was a braveheart and not a coward and a true patriot, who never pleaded for forgiveness or Mafi in the court for his acts to fight against India’s Independence. Despite being sentenced to imprisonment to Kala Pani for 50 years, he did not sccumb to the punishment, but used the ancient Indian wisdom of Sam, Daam, Dund, and Bhed to succeed in his plans to get out of there, contributing to India’s freedom struggle both culturally and socially, while he believed in Dushman ko kiye hue wade nibhaye nahi jate.”

Randeep draws interesting historical references on how India could have achieved independence long back in 1912 itself, had the Britishers not crushed the movement by sending Veer Savarkarji to Kala Pani.

He said, “It was the time that we had few Britishers in India, and Savarkarji planned the revolt to kill and threaten them to leave India in support with Lok Manya Tilak ji. He created an army and smuggled guns and ammunition to India, but unfortunately, Tilakji passed away and Savarkarji was sentenced to jail in Kala Pani. Following this, the Non-Violence Movement started which was more conducive to the British, as there was no aggression and negotiations which went on for many years. Ultimately they left India because they had a huge lose of money in the First World War.”

The film has a very different treatment on screen which looks rich in texture which is evident from the trailer, Producer Anand Pandit, commenting on it, says, ” I think a character like Savarkarji needs it, as we tried to bring a visual experience of that era, to appeal more to the audiences.”

Producer Sandeep Singh throws light on the inception of the film and how Ranveer Hooda was approached to act, but eventually he wrote, directed and produced the film. He says,”It was in 2020 when I approached Randeep for the role, although the script wasn’t ready at that point. Randeep started his research and started sending references about Savarkarji and was so into it that we asked him to write the script, but he needed some assistance, and then Utkarsh came on board.”

Sandeep further added,” Whenever I discussed the concept of the film,  everyone told me not to make this film, finally I went to Anand Panditji who asked who’s doing the film and agreed to support the film. Also, Zee Studios came on board since we all believe that this is the time to make a better cinema for Bharat. One thing was for sure that had Randeep not said yes, this film could not have been made.”

Talking about Savarkarji’s ideology and why is he is still relevant today to make a film, Hooda says, “Savarkarji took India as a cultural unit as Akhand Bharat‘,as he believed in putting country before any religion ‘ Desh Dharm se Upar Hai.’ He believed that it’s important to be armed to live in peace, otherwise you may be bullied. Even today India is a respected nation because it has its arms in place to protect itself, although it believes in restoring global peace.”

Having raised the expectations with its trailer launch, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 22nd March, 2024 to be watched by one and all the Patriots of the country, while it raises many questions, which still needs answers!
